How To Fix LAG In Minecraft

There is only one type of lag in singleplayer, this being FPS Lag, which affects a player's FPS (Frames Per Second; the animation in the game which appears on-screen). FPS lag can usually be fixed by reducing the quality of video in the Settings. Music and sound-effects occasionally render slowly when there is slight lag, producing chunky music and occasional pauses.

Consider upgrading your computer. Beyond the fixes listed above, you'll essentially need to upgrade your computer to see more performances increases. Minecraft stresses both your CPU and GPU, so both may need to be upgraded to see significant gains. Installing more RAM will likely not make much of a difference unless Minecraft is using 100% of your RAM. You are unlikely going to be able to upgrade a laptop beyond potential.

Change the Minecraft game resolution. Lowering the resolution will make the game window smaller, but can help increase your performance. Close Minecraft if it is running and open the Minecraft Launcher. Click the "Edit Profile" button in the lower-left corner. Enter a new, smaller resolution. Common resolutions for widescreen monitors include 1920x1080, 1600x900, and 1280x720.

In MineCraft, experiencing extreme lag. It gets worse EVERY TIME, and now down to about 9 fps maximum with full settings. Turning down the graphics settings has no effect on fps at all, even with minimum I have a limit of about 10 or 11 fps. I used to get 30 fps with the same launcher and same version with max settings.

Minecraft is a heavily CPU bound game, the processor you have in your system is not that great for render distances greater than about 16 chunks. I would also recommend only allocating about 3 or 4 GB of ram to the game, as any more than that can actually slow it down due to inefficiencies with how the game handles memory(I got a 20 fps boost going from 8 GB allocated to 3).

Monitor the memory usage just before, during, and after you lose connection. Is the amount of memory used close to the amount of memory you have available? If so, then the game is stuttering because of constant memory swapping, and you need more RAM. I'm not sure if this can actually cause disconnections, but it can cause extreme lag.
